I # ve spent the last year feasting my way through the city to count the best restaurants in Kansas City. Our editors visited more than 1,000 restaurants in the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand last year to select our forty best restaurants.

Rosedale BBQ will celebrate its 85th anniversary in 2019 and has been a Kansas City BBQ tradition since 1934 and is locally owned. The Smokestack BBQ in Martin City soon became one of the most popular grill restaurants in the city and a favorite of many locals and visitors.

Formerly known as Oklahoma Joe's, this is one of the oldest and most popular barbecue spots in Kansas City, Kansas. That has changed recently, but will always be known to locals as "Oklahoma Joe's" and is definitely my favorite barbecue spot in town.

The food is good, and the list of unique Kansas restaurants is begging with wonderful cakes, but it's all about the food, not the restaurants.

In Kansas, the most iconic food combination is a bowl of chilli and a homemade cinnamon roll, but KC Masterpiece is the traditional Kansas City sauce served in the region. Equally unique is the pie sauce, which omits Kansas City's typical molasses for a spicy tomato-forward variety. The Kansas City and Memphis barbecue styles are very similar, although KansasCity tends to use more sauce and a larger selection of meat.

Kansas is the best I've ever had, and I'm a big fan of fried steak, pork chops, chicken, ribs, beef breast and pork ribs.

No trip to Kansas City would be complete without a barbecue, and My favourite KC I had so far was Q39. Rich Davis has capitalized on the reputation of Kansas City Barbecue to create the evolving KC Masterpiece. This large pork tenderloin is one of the best I've ever had in the Kansas City area. The slow smoked meat comes from the Henry Perry pit, but is now available in various sizes and styles.

Andre and Elsbeth Bollier emigrated from Basel to Kansas City, Switzerland, in June 1955 and opened their first restaurant in October of the same year.
