Shawnee Mission West High School Reviews

It's a good school. The instructor's really care, and the drama and music is outstanding

This school was a great school to get to go to. it was an honor to be a viking, but now im stuck at boring olathe east. Shawnee mission west was awesome students and teachers were great to work with, and the classes are not homework loaded. This school is GREAT!!

i attend shawnee mission east high school, and would like to say that shawnee mission west is the best high school in the kansas area, maybe even the world

West is a good school for students who fall in the norm category. (Norm: Students who need little or no assistance and get good grades.) However, if your child has trouble with behavior or learning, this school lacks the ability to meet your childs needs. My experience was poor at best with the teachers working with my students. The teachers and administration are quick to point out the problems but slow or non exsistant at helping to find positive solutions to students with challenges. The school as a whole is poor when it comes to educating 'ALL' students. More needs to be addressed with educating the teachers and administration on how to handle students who don't fit into the box they want them to.

My daughter will be a senior at West this year, and I have truly loved her time there. This is one of the most culturally diverse schools I've seen, and the variety of elective courses is truly amazing. The faculty and staff are helpful, parents are encouraged to be involved, and leadership is strongly promoted within the student body. There is strong support for both athletics and the arts, and advance placement classes offers students the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school.

this is a very well rounded school with many different types of classes for students to enroll in from welding and auto to fashion and painting all of these classes are completely open to all students. you can see the parents coming in and helping out with different activities where they are needed. they have fund raisers for sports and for school activities to help cut the cost to the students.

West is supposed to be rich, but there are drug issues and violence is starting to become an issue as well. Overall, West is a very nice school.

SM West is a very rich school, that has held more than 1,800 students since it opened its doors in 1962. Currently, as of 2003-2004 there are 2,051 students enrolled at West, and the down side is that it is overly packed. The drug and alcohol issue is becoming a problem for all students. But, compared to Shawnee Mission North, West is a very safe school to have our children at. My son went to North for two years, and hated it with a strong passion. West is truly best!
